Whenever DirtNKids goes on a long family vacation, our little tag-a-long, Gnomie, always goes with us. The kids enjoy being creative with places for him to “play,” and I get to scratch a creative itch with an aging Olympus DSLR.
The last big road trip, he went with us all the way to Frankfort, Michigan. (You can view that post here.) In between, he’s been dropped a few times, lost, found (in the Barbie house), lost again, and found again (packed in a box). The tip of his hat got chipped. His trowel broke off. Poor guy — let’s hope he stays in tact enough for our next journey!
Back in August, we loaded up the SUV and headed out west for a 3-week long, 7-state Road Trip Adventure. (You can view that post here.) This is that same trip from Gnomie’s perspective.

Think I’ll take a nap before we get there.
Can I borrow your trowel? Mine’s broken.
These saplings are just my size.
sand angels…and no sand in my pants.
(Though I thought the chick ride was better.)
Sure enjoyed this hilarious post, Shannon. Gnomie looks like he scored a terrific vacation! 🙂

It’s an oldie but a goodie for me thus the re-post. We forgot him on our National Park tour last year, and didn’t travel this one, so he’s gathering dust! Nice to see you’re still around, Jet. Hope you’re having a splendid summer.

This is a fabulous idea! We’re going to adopt it for sure. And sorry to hear you forgot Gnomie on your latest trip!!! Maybe you can pick up Gnomie’s long-lost cousin somewhere along your trip? Then you could have a family reunion when you get back. 😉

Well, we never did get a “replacement.” Wound up using our vehicle instead! Since everything is so BIG out here in upper Montanta, our travel SUV looks a bit *ahem” small in the photos. Gnomie got replaced by Hummie. 😀 Stay tuned!

Oh how divine is this post! It put a big smile on my face after a long day of work.I love Gnomie on the Narrow Gauge, but I think he must take a trip on the wild side and come visit us here in South Africa!

I’m so very glad you enjoyed, Leozette. There is another of him on Michigan beaches that you may equally enjoy. I’m even more glad that you stopped by here, though GreensForGood Blog is more up your alley. I post more regularly here (it’s my mainstay, and not subject to searches), though I want to give the other blog some more attention. I feel it’s much more important than my journal’d life over here. Cheers!

Glad you came by, Gina, and thanks for the nice words. It is rather fun isn’t it? We can’t wait until our next adventure to Glacier in June. Gnomie will be along, of course.

Love this! The one on the train in particular had me laughing out loud.

If you laughed at the train one, then you’d really like him roasting marsh mellows (http://wp.me/p28k6D-yY) or making sand angels. My kids are the true genius behind most of the shots. Thanks, Rachael.

Great fun post, Shannon. The gnome away from home. The little guy has great taste, I liked the ‘chick ride’ view, too. 🙂

Hey, Rache…thanks! Though I’ve not been over to comment just yet, I see that you had a nice road trip yourself. Ours was a bit…warmer than yours.

HA! Yes! And I hope you and Gnomie didn’t get stuck on the side of the road with a flat tire and broken spirit. 😉

No, but we did BARELY make it out alive when a flash flood wiped out the little town of Manitou Springs during our last two days. Yours is a much better story!
