Hi Readers,
Now that the migrating hummingbirds have (sadly) moved south until spring, birding focus turns to the wide variety of wintering ducks that occupies the Upper Texas Gulf Coast where we reside. The annual checklist is never complete unless we can tick off every one that comes through; we are down to just a handful of weeks left in which to do just that.
Those who have been following a while, I’m sure you’ve noticed the lack of blogging. Though I have promised to post once per week, you should be advised that blogging is inversely proportional to the daily life schedule: as one snores, the other battles insomnia.
That same increase in busy-ness takes a big chunk out of regularly birding as well. The camera bag is covered with dust bunnies. Of the 29 some odd duck/goose species we could see, 17 of them are still struck through. Ouch.
Enjoy this collection of my favorite little duckie snaps; perhaps it’s more of a nudge for me than it is pleasure you. Either way, see y’all outside near the water .. where the feathers are!

You could definitely say that. And while I was poring over duck pics, I realized what a backlog of posts I’ve got. I need to get busy.

I’ve heard of water pouring off a duck’s back but this is the first time I’ve heard of anyone going back and poring over duck pics. If you start blasting out posts we could call you Shannon the Cannon.

I’ll let you be the first to call me that! But first to get to blasting ..

Hello! I only spotted two hummingbirds so far this fall, but managed to catch the monarch migration out my office window Thursday and Friday. It was gleefully magical. I hope you’re well 🙂

Monarch migration? Like, a bunch of butterflies all on their way to roost in Mexico? That would be amazing!! Hope you’re enjoying the change in weather .. and not the epic rain and flooding.

Definitely a pleasure, Shannon, and hopefully a healthy nudge to you, to get out the dust cloth for your camera. 😊
Enjoy your outing, I hope you will be able to check off the missing ducks!

I’m itching to get out, Tanja. Scott and I went to a few favorite birding spots last couple of weekends, but the birds hadn’t arrived yet. We still enjoyed being outdoors and hope to make those weekends a habit. Cheers!
